Jigsaw Addict is a co-op jigsaw puzzle game. It runs as a Discord Activity inside a voice channel, as a standalone game in your web browser, on Steam, and as an Android app. This page explains what information the game accesses, what is stored, and why.
The short version:
- In Discord, the game uses your Discord account to identify you to other players.
- On the web, you play as a guest with a temporary id. No account is required.
- We store basic profile info and gameplay statistics so your progress persists between sessions.
- The Steam and Android versions, and the browser version at unity-play.jigsawaddict.com, send anonymous crash reports and usage data to our own server so we can fix problems. You can turn this off in Settings.
- We do not show ads, use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, or sell your data to anyone.
Discord account information
When you launch the game inside Discord, the Discord SDK asks you to authorize the
identify scope. This lets the game read your Discord user ID, username, and
avatar so we can show who is in the room and attribute gameplay to your account. We do not
request your email address, your friends list, or any other Discord data.
Guest accounts on the web
When you play in a browser outside Discord, the server gives you a temporary guest id for the session. Guests have no username from Discord and no avatar. Gameplay stats are stored against the guest id the same way they are for a Discord account.
Gameplay and profile data
We store a record for your user id with your cached username and avatar plus lifetime totals: time played, puzzle pieces connected, pieces placed in a finished puzzle, and the highest difficulty (piece count) you have played. These power the in-game profile view and update automatically as you play.
Session and room data
Each puzzle room you create or join is recorded as a session, including the room id, the puzzle image reference and grid size, who created it, and when it started and finished. For each player in that session we track join and leave times and per-session stats. This powers the session history in your profile.
Puzzle images you upload
If you upload your own image to use as a puzzle, it is stored on our server so it can be served as the puzzle texture to everyone in the room. Please only upload images you have the right to use and share with the other people in that room.
Gallery images
You can pick a public-domain artwork from the in-game gallery instead of uploading your own. When you do, our server fetches that image from the source (Wikimedia Commons, the Art Institute of Chicago, or The Met) and stores a copy to serve as the puzzle texture. No personal data is sent to those sources.
Optional location for leaderboards
Leaderboards can show global, country, and regional rankings for stats like time played and pieces connected. You can set a country on your profile to appear on country and regional leaderboards. A "hide my location" toggle removes your country from those rankings while your stats stay on the global leaderboard. This setting is optional and off by default.
Local device storage
The game uses your browser's local storage to remember preferences on your device, like volume and mute settings, whether the controls panel is collapsed, and whether image preview mode is on. It uses session storage to remember which room you were joining if the page needs to reload. None of this leaves your device or is linked to your account.
Crash reports and usage data
The Steam and Android versions of the game, and the browser version at unity-play.jigsawaddict.com, send diagnostic data to our own server. This is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings. It contains:
- A random install id created by the game on your device, and a new random id for each play session. Neither is linked to your account, your name, or a hardware identifier.
- Errors and crashes: the error message, where in the game's code it happened, and which screen you were on. If the previous session ended without closing properly, the last part of that session's game log is included.
- What you do in the game, at a coarse level: which screens you open, when you join or leave a room, puzzle size, mode and player count, and when you finish a puzzle or a campaign level.
- Basic facts about your device: operating system, device model, graphics card, memory, screen size, and the game's language.
We use this only to find and fix bugs and to understand which parts of the game are played. It is stored on our own server and is not shared with or sold to anyone.
Issue reports
When you use "Report an issue" in the game, we receive what you write, the category you pick, and the contact details you choose to leave (if any), along with the game version, your platform and device facts. If "include technical details" is ticked, recent lines of the game's log are attached too. If you are signed in, the report is linked to your account so we can look into account problems. A summary of each report (the category, your description and the version, but not your contact details or the log) is posted to a private channel on our Discord server so we see it quickly, which means Discord processes that summary.
Purchases and donations
You can support the game from inside the Steam and Android versions. Payments are handled entirely by Steam or Google Play; we never see your card or payment details. Steam and Google Play tell the game only whether a purchase succeeded.
Third-party services
Inside Discord, the game talks to the Discord API to authenticate you and embed the Activity. See Discord's Privacy Policy for how Discord handles your data. On Steam, Valve handles sign-in and purchases; see Valve's Privacy Policy. On Android, Google Play handles installs and purchases; see Google's Privacy Policy. The game does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking SDKs.
Data retention and deletion
Your profile, session history, and uploaded images are kept so your stats persist across sessions. Crash reports and usage data are deleted after 90 days, and issue reports after one year. You can delete your account and its data yourself at any time; see how to delete your account. Deleting your account also deletes the issue reports linked to it. You can also contact us using the details below and we will remove your stored profile, session records, and uploaded images for you.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS and WSS) between your browser, Discord, and our server. Access tokens from the Discord authorization step are used only to confirm your identity and are not stored long term.
Children's privacy
The game is subject to the age requirements of the platform you use it on, including Discord's own age requirements. We do not knowingly collect information beyond what is described here from any user, regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
